Abstract

This paper is a summary of an extensive systematic study of the influences of various meteorological factors on the occurrence and characteristics of mountain waves, more specially the lee-waves of great horizontal extent..  The following conclusions were reached: (i) In all cases considered, a layer with a great static stability was recorded between 1000 and 4000 m above sea level, (ii) The horizontal extent of the lee-waves was found to vary in inverse ratio of the thickness of this highly stable layer...
