Abstract

One of the prime requirements for survival in a crash is protection of the occupant from the effects of deceleration....  Initial slack and stretch in the restraint together with deflections of the seat delay the deceleration of an occupant in a crash deceleration so  that a large proportion of the occupants kinetic energy must be absorbed by the restraint......
