Abstract

In recent years a special interest has been displayed in ultra-lightweight lifting surfaces for slow-flying gliders, short-haul all cargo sircraft, recovery systems of meteorological rockets or satellite vehicles and even military aircraft pilots...  The presented  basic information on the stretched-membrane sail-wing and some possible applications permits us to state that the tendency to reduce the speed of flying vehicles of fixed wing area without high-lift devices leads at present to the stretched-membrane sail-wing concept as the best and unique solution...
