Abstract

A review is given of the nature of squall lines and of their identification and study as pressure jump lines. The theory of steepening atmospheric gravity waves is reviewed and several synoptic patterns associated with theĀ  generation of severe storms are presented and shown to produce atmospheric gravity waves dynamically.
