Abstract
The characteristics of a sailplane sometimes permit it to be an effective research tool. Desribed is a study of atmospheric turbulence that utilized the high lift-to-drag ratio and the simple descent-vs-speed relationahip of the sailplane to help separate the measurement of vertical and horizontal tubulence. A second study was the transport and decay of the silver iodide smoke used for cloud seeding utilizing the low stalling speed and high manuverability of the sailplane to locate the thermal masses in which the smoke rises...
