Abstract
It has been known for a considerable time that if the static-side of a glider variometer is connected to a device which supplies a pressure, the variometer readings are proportional to the rate of change of total energy (kinetic plus potential) of the glider. The present paper explains the advantages of this arrangement, discusses the theory of variometers and indicates the present means adopted in this country to supply the variometer with the required pressure.
