Gaming Stances and Strategies: Hybrids, Opportunists, and Cross-Fertilizations
AbstractThis paper addresses the narrative nature of digital games and explores the question from the perspective of game players. Rather than opting for one side or the other of the ludology/narratology dichotomy, players are more likely to draw hybrid strategies as it suits them in order to maximize their chances of making meaning from the text on offer. This paper explores the nature of some of these hybrid strategies.
