Message from Dr. Robert Nellis, President pro tem, CSSE

Dear CSSE Members,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of the new Francophone Editor for the Canadian Journal of Education.  Dr. Claude Quevillon Lacasse (https://www.uottawa.ca/faculty-education/claude-quevillon-lacasse) of the University of Ottawa will commence her appointment on 1 July 2024.  Dr. Claude Quevillon Lacasse completed her master’s studies in linguistics, with a minor in language teaching and learning, and a PhD in education at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). She was a course lecturer in the teacher education program at UQAM and the Université de Montréal, as well as a French teacher for newcomers at Concordia University. She worked as a collaborator for the Quebec Ministry of Education and Télé-Québec en classe, and is the current president of Association québécoise pour l’enseignement du français langue seconde (AQEFLS). Her research focuses on the role of metalinguistic awareness in language learning, teaching grammar and writing, cross linguistic pedagogy, and professional development for teachers.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Dr. Carole Fleuret, who has been Francophone Editor of the Journal for the past six years. During Dr. Fleuret’s tenure, the number and quality of French submissions to CJE continued to increase. Francophone scholars from across Canada and throughout the French-speaking world found in Dr. Fleuret a dedicated and conscientious editor who provided advice and support, but always with the expectation that authors would produce the highest quality work. The CJE’s excellent status among academic journals in Canada is due in no small part to Dr. Fleuret’s exacting standards. Dr. Fleuret gave countless hours to the Journal, and for this, we are extremely grateful.
