Writing and Submitting a Book Review for

Witness: Journal of the Academy for Evangelism in Theological Education

Book reviews are one way of keeping abreast of literature and informing the Academy of helpful literature and evaluating new contributions to the field.

  1. Selecting a Title to Review
  • Witness accepts reviews of titles that has been published within the last two years.
  • Titles that that address the theology, practice, and teaching of evangelism are preferred, but related subjects are also accepted.

  1. The Content and Structure of a Review

It is suggested to read book reviews in previous issues of Witness. The following elements are normally addressed:

  • Very brief introduction of the topic and the background of the author
  • The main purpose or thesis of the book
  • Structure of the book, e.g. sections, chapters, logical progression
  • The new contribution (if any) of the book
  • Strengths and weaknesses of the book
  • What do you recommend regarding the usefulness of the book? textbook (what level?), popular guide, reference resource, etc.
  • Edited volumes with multiple authors should give an overview of the book, focus on two chapters that stand out, are particularly valuable, or that illustrate the nature of the volume.
  • Book reviews should not include any notes, and should be approximately 2 pages (500 words) long.
  • When submitting a book review go to: https://aete.online/journal/  Choose the option "book review," and title the review: "A review of [title of the book].”) Thank you!

Reviewers consider whether the potential article meets with the purpose of the journal of publishing high-quality academic work about evangelism, includes original work, is well-written, addresses a timely theme or issue, and is the right length (approx. 20 pages).

Publication Frequency

Witness is an annual journal that is published every summer. Each summer, a new volume of the journal with articles and book reviews will become available.
