Interested in submitting to this journal? We recommend that you review the About the Journal page for the journal's section policies, as well as the Author Guidelines. Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting or, if already registered, can simply log in and begin the five-step process.

Visual Methodologies operates a hybrid publishing model and publishes work “open access” as well as under “subscription” (no fees). Before submitting your research to Visual Methodologies, please check whether your funder has any requirements about publishing work “open access”.

This might be gold open access, which means that the final version of your article published in a journal is immediately available for anyone to read and reuse. Publishing gold OA often requires the payment of an article publishing charge (APC). If your funder requires you to publish gold OA then they will usually make funding available to support this.

Alternatively your funder may require you to make use of the green open access option, which you can do by depositing an earlier version of your article in a repository. Some funders and a large number of institutions have their own repositories, which they ask you to use.

The current APC for articles/essays published in VM is CHF1,460.00

The publication fee will be charged to the author(s) upon acceptance of his/her article.  If you withdraw your manuscript after it has been peer reviewed, or after it has been typeset (but not yet published) you will be charged according to the following: CHF450.00 per article (after peer review) and CHF600.00 per article (after peer review and typesetting).

You will usually be able to find full details about your funder’s open access policy on their website. Another useful source of information is ROARMAP, the Registry of Open Access Repository Mandates and Policies. This is a growing database of the open access policies of institutions and research funders.

Whether you choose to publish “open access” or under “subscription” we welcome your interest in publishing with VM.
