Abstract

The basic principtes of airspeed measurement, as well as the more conmon practical problems, are reviewed. The construction of an airspeed indicator calibraton is desribed. Although it is difficult to find very much beyond rudimentary definitions that has been written on the subject of airspeed, this paper should by no means be considered a rigorous, latest treatment of the subject. It is, however, quite comprehensive, even though it is intended to serve a fairly wide non-technical audience. My intention in writing this paper was to provide a worthwhile resource on the mechanics of airspeed measurement, as well as, to offer a more or less do-it-yourself project in which the reader can actually apply the principles learned in a meaningful way.
