Abstract

0ver the past ten years several attempts have been made to build a sailplane with a wing fitted with a chord-extending flap. Such a device is known as a Wortmann flap and it can be described as a non-slotted Fowler f'lap. Nearly all the sailplanes that resulted from those attempts show a high standard of technology. Based on experience with prototypes, some principles can be established which should be kept in mind when designing a Wortmann flap glider.
