Abstract

Fifty-years ago, on 3 March 1933, the great soaring pioneer, Wolf Hirth, made the first wave soaring flight in Grunau, Germany....  .. While refinements in sailplane design and in the - already sophisticated - flight techniques may still bring small incremental improvements to thermal flight, wave soaring can be expected to produce a quantum jump in soaring performance.  The time for such accomplishments is now.
