Abstract

The attainment of flight by muscular power has long been one of man's aspirations and there is no doubt that its realisation has been brought much closer by modern advances in the design of powered aircraft. To take advantage of these advances it would be essential to design the man-propelled aircraft as a fixed-wing propeller-driven monoplane, and there is naturally some questions whether this is fundamentally the right way of attempting muscular flight....
