Abstract

Open almost any thoughtful magazine, online or off, and you will find yourself in the middle of the debate about the effects of technology on our lives. It may seem self-evident that, like any powerful tool, the Internet and the forms of communication that have developed within it can be used for good or ill. Technology is neutral, the conventional wisdom seems to say - it is how we use it that matters.
