Abstract

Approaches to clinical pastoral education (CPE) have in part been determined by the kind of students being supervised: what learning issues they present and personality styles and character strucures they exhibit. The aim of this essay is to identify the changing demographic profile of seminary and CPE students and the changing styles and cultures in CPE and theological education in the past three decades. Althought clinical pastoral education is the primary context for these observations, they are relevant for other instances of formation and supervision for ministry as well.
