Author Guidelines

The Journal welcomes articles on educational policy and leadership, research use, and policy analysis. The Journal seeks to build bridges between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to help identify best practices in learning, teaching, and leadership. Individuals from each group, therefore, are encouraged to submit articles for publication. Articles should focus on studies and systematic analyses that employ qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methodologies. Because of its international scope, authors are encouraged to focus on the underlying aspects of their research that make the work relevant for the larger community of educators and policymakers.

Articles should be between 5,000 to 7,000 total words, this range includes the abstract and references. Articles should use the bibliographic and formatting standards found in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition, 2009 (manuscripts submitted earlier than March 1, 2010 may be formatted according to the 5th Edition, 2001). In addition to their submitted papers, authors are encouraged to include other supplementary files they feel are relevant to reviewers and readers of the journal, including data-sets, research instruments, etc. Finally, authors are encouraged to limit their inclusion of tables and figures to presenting information critical to the content of the paper. Excessive use of tables is strongly discouraged.

The journal does not have article processing charges (APCs) nor do we use article submission charges.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://www.ijepl.org) are activated and ready to click.
  4. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. The text has had the authors' names removed. If an author is cited, "Author" and year are used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of author's name, paper title, etc. The author's name has also been removed from the document's Properties, which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu.
  7. FEE NOTICE: Please note that due to the labor intensive nature of placing tables, articles with more than three tables will be charged $50 per table (in excess of three) to supplement copyediting and layout costs.
  8. I have read and accept the Publishing Agreement below. PUBLISHING AGREEMENT I hereby grant and assign to the publishers of the International Journal of Education Policy and Leadership (IJEPL) the exclusive right of first publication of my work.
