Abstract

Teacher attrition is a multidimensional issue that has a significant impact on the Quebec school system. Person-environment fit is a promising framework for identifying the explaining factors of teachers’ leaving. The purpose of this empirical study is to examine the influence of four levels of person-environment fit — organization, job, group and supervisor — with teachers’ intention to leave the job. Two hundred and ninety-one teachers from Quebec participated in the study. Structural equation modelling highlights the primacy of person-organization fit and person-job fit in explaining the intention to leave the job.

Keywords: intent to leave job, person-organization fit, person-job fit, person-group fit, person-supervisor fit, teacher attrition
